Rantoul – In 2008, Carle Clinic Association was one of the first healthcare providers in the nation to pilot patient self check-in technology from Epic Systems. Similar to airport kiosks and grocery store self-scanners, the systems allow patients to check in, verify insurance and update personal information without ever visiting the front desk.
Initially placed in new primary care centers in Urbana and Champaign, the technology was extended to Mahomet last fall and is now available to patients in Rantoul. Self-service kiosks store patient information safely and allow patients to privately check-in without a need to discuss personal information. Kiosks in Rantoul will offer language menus in either English or Spanish.
“We will be able to serve patients quickly and efficiently, and extend a level of privacy that paper records or verbal check-in can’t compete with,” said Simone Smith, patient care manager at Carle Clinic - Rantoul. “With two self check-in stations and the option of checking in at the desk, we’ve tripled the number of patients we can serve at the time of arrival.”
