URBANA – Members of the community have an opportunity to learn about new options for treatment and prevention of head and neck cancers. Carle Cancer Center will host a Clinical Trials Symposium on Wednesday, April 22, 6 – 8 p.m.
Use of tobacco, including chewing tobacco, and alcohol are the greatest risk factors for head and neck cancer. In fact, 85 percent of cases are linked to tobacco use. The risk increases for people who use both tobacco and alcohol.
In addition to existing treatments, including radiation, chemotherapy and surgical options, head and neck cancer patients have access to clinical trials through Carle Clinic.
“Too few people realize the benefits of research studies,” said Kena Hahn, clinical research professional, Carle Clinic. “We need to know how to prevent cancer and how to treat it, and the only way to do that is through research. The studies are truly an innovative treatment option.”
This event is free and open to all patients, regardless of where they receive care. Space is limited, and registration is requested. For more information or to register, call (217) 326-1160 or email cancer.research@carle.com.
