URBANA, IL – Carle Clinic Laboratory has been awarded accreditation by the Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) based on the results of a recent on-site inspection. CAP accreditation is recognized by the federal government as equal to, or more stringent, than the government’s own inspection program.
CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program is an internationally known program and the only one of its kind that uses teams of practicing lab professionals as inspectors. Designed to go well beyond regulatory compliance, the program helps labs achieve the highest standards of excellence to positively impact patient care.
“The inspection program is specifically designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all patients,” said Mike Shannon, Carle Clinic Laboratory manager. “This accreditation reflects our success in maintaining quality patient care processes.”
The accreditation process involves inspection of laboratory records and quality control procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, records and programs.
