Research and Clinical Trials

Carle Cancer Center has conducted cancer research for more than 20 years, giving patients access to innovative treatment options. In 1983, it was one of the first community cancer facilities in the U.S. to be designated a Community Clinical Oncology Program (CCOP), directly linking Carle Cancer Center with the National Cancer Institute’s research endeavors.

Carle Cancer Center currently participates in more than 100 research studies, including National Institutes of Health-funded and pharmaceutical-sponsored studies for cancer prevention, control and treatment.

The American Society of Clinical Oncology and the National Institutes of Health have recently recognized Carle Cancer Center for its significant contribution to clinical research. Read about the awards.


Carle Cancer Center's primary research affiliation is with North Central Cancer Treatment Group (NCCTG), led by Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. The Center also participates in the following national research programs:
