Multidisciplinary Approach

Carle Clinic takes a multidisciplinary approach to diagnosing and treating cancer, which means patients benefit from the attention, care and combined expertise of several physicians.

Carle Cancer Center’s prostate clinic and head and neck clinic and Mills Breast Cancer Institute’s breast clinic are specialized programs within Carle Clinic’s comprehensive oncology services.

In the specialty clinics, patients conveniently meet with all their physicians in one day, in one office. This collaborative meeting allows the physicians, whose practices are dedicated to these disease sites, to discuss directly with patients treatment options and processes. Once an individualized treatment plan is developed, a nurse navigator personally assists patients with appointments, test results, available resources or any questions or issues that may arise during care.

The physician teams for each specialty clinic meet regularly to discuss specific cases and determine how they can best work together to provide comprehensive care.
