Multidisciplinary Approach
Carle takes a multidisciplinary approach to diagnosing and treating cancer, which means patients benefit from the attention, care and combined expertise of several physicians.
Carle Cancer Center’s three specialized clinics - prostate, head and neck, and Mills Breast Cancer Institute’s breast clinic - are programs within Carle's comprehensive oncology services.
In these specialty clinics, patients conveniently meet with all their physicians in one day, in one office.* This collaborative meeting allows the physicians, whose practices are dedicated to these disease sites, to speak directly with patients about treatment options and processes. Once an individualized treatment plan is developed, a nurse navigator assists patients with appointments, test results, resources or any questions or issues that may arise during care.
The physician teams for each specialty clinic meet regularly to discuss specific cases and determine how they can best work together to provide comprehensive care.
