Medical Oncology

When you choose Carle Cancer Center, you will receive an individualized, comprehensive treatment plan, which may include a combination of treatment modalities, including medical oncology, radiation oncology and surgery.

Our board certified medical oncologists diagnose, evaluate and design treatment to manage solid tumors, hematologic malignancies and other severe cancer disorders. They work with our nationally certified nurses and support staff to give you the best tools in your fight against cancer.

Medical oncology is delivered in many forms, including:

  • Chemotherapy: treatment with drugs that kill cancer cells
  • Biotherapy: uses drugs that boost the ability of the immune system to fight cancer
  • Targeted therapies: involve drugs that target certain functions or parts of a cancer cell
  • Supportive therapy: uses agents to decrease and manage side effects
  • Transfusions: use blood products as supportive therapy
  • Hormone therapy: uses drugs to add, block or remove hormones to stop the growth of certain cancers
